Why Choose Engineered Timber
Solid wood flooring is made of solid wood throughout its thickness. It usually made of a hardwood species, such as oak, maple, or walnut, and its major advantage is that it can be sanded and refinished many times over the course of its lifespan. Harben European Oak Engineered wood flooring looks very similar on the surface, but it is made from a relatively thin layer of European Oak hardwood bonded over a substrate of high-quality plywood. It can still be sanded like hard wood but only has far as the solid wood veneer allows.
When compared to hardwood, engineered flooring is less expensive and an excellent choice for clients who want to achieve the hardwood look and feel at a fraction of the price. A good-quality engineered wood floor is also long lasting, typically around 25 to 30 years.
Engineered flooring is also easy for DIYers to install with its tongue and groove edges and pre-finished surfaces. Most hardwood floors need to be glued or nailed to the concrete subfloor whereas engineered floors can be either directly stuck to the concrete or floated on top of un underlay. Something to note is most apartment complex strata boards will required residents installing new engineered floors to us an acoustic underlay to stop sound transfer between levels.
Engineered flooring is also more environmentally friendly. The bottom of engineered boards consist mostly of sustainable plantation plywood, and as such they are more earth-friendly than solid oak flooring.
